Mineral Point Market Pics

Have been setting up at the Mineral Point Farmer's Market the past couple weeks and will continue to do so for the remainder of the season. Just giving the community a little insight into what the Walker House is offering before we open up the doors and it has been a lot of fun actually getting out in the public and meeting people outside of the restaurants that I frequent, so that has been a lot of fun.

Here are some pics that I took of and around the market and of course, my pasties (I have sold out of pasties every week since I started going) So now we are selling my mini-pasties, pulled southern BBQ Pork and our new Heat and Eat Whole Wheat Pizzas.

Thanks to everyone for their support of not only the Walker House but of our local farms and farmers and the other local businesses that frequent the market

Pics, Pics and more Pics

An array of pictures...some of life here in Mineral Point with some included of my little town in Virginia and friends there, especially a couple pics of Trish Z. whom we had lost this year...

Jewel and other Stars

Again this ain't my pic....I just gotta story...
I went out for a cocktail after work (and Cheffy doesn't do TV) and I saw Jewel perfoming on Jay Leno...Man...she looked hot....
This was not the Jewel that I met, I mean she is hot no matter what but people like her and Alison and Bonnie and Reba really know how to play the game...
When you see them in cut off overalls, rock and roll t-shirts and being who they are and what they do is when I find them the sexiest...
Tonight on Jay Leno Jewel wore a short skirt that accenuated parts of her body and I am here to tell you that is not the most sexiest part of that woman...not even close....
The same can be said about Alison or Alicia...they might be hot when they are on stage, but when they are backstage and really being "people" is when they are the hottest...
I am not being selfish or sexist, but you know when someone is sexy...they are who they are and not for any reason, not for a camera, not for a fan, not for any reason at all...
just cuz....
This is one of the reasons that I love Alison, Alicia, Melissa, Jewel...
They don't have to try to be something that they are not...
They just are...
Some of us love poetry
There are others that put music to the words...
I love them all...

My Lil' Vickie...Soulmate, Best Friend, Photographer

A lot of the old Cheffy photos were taken by Vick, I don't talk about her too much anymore since I left Tennessee but she is a very important part of who and what I am...

A while ago Vickie had written a poem for me that I kind of forgot about and I thought I would post it on the blog, just cuz I think it is a cool poem and there are a lot of people that can relate to it...

Forever Yours,
Big Soft Cheek Kisses
Mwahhhhhhhh.....

Michael

The Shirt In My Closet

A shirt still hangs in my closet
even though its not one I wear

I guess it's some how a comfort
just knowing its hanging there

Some jeans folded neatly on the shelf
never to be worn again

Just a small reminder
of things that could have been

I guess we keep things sometimes
we know will never fit

But a woman has hopes and dreams
that are sometimes hard to quit

So for now the shirt and jeans will stay there

Even though they do not fit...

Vickie Jo

(pic of me scribbling in the snow this winter thinking about my baby...)

Sometimes life's road takes us many places.

Regrets or no regrets my world and career landed me in the beautiful world of Mineral Point.

Vickie would really love it here, as I do.

I just wanted to pay homage to this beautiful person for helping me become the man that I am today and for loving me unconditionally no matter what choices in life I have chosen.

Love You Baby...

Michael

Walker House Stories-Remember When?

Remember When?
It seems that everyone has stories about the Walker House so we had started a blog site so that people can tell their stories and we will publish them on the blogsite.
If you have a story you want to tell either send it to me or type it in as a comment on one of the blog entries and I will transfer it into a post on the blog.
We just started it, and I transferred one story over there and will probably transfer some of the stories that are buried on this blog over to that one just to get things started and maybe finish up my "What's Time To A Walker House Ghost?" story

LittleTown USA

I have tried to live in smaller communities throughout my life and career, it is kind of funny that no matter how similiar the LittleTown USA is, they still have their unique characteristics. This morning at the market was definitely one of those unique moments. When I was unloading our truck to set up at the market this morning there was a young lady that had a calf on a rope walking down the middle of the street, I couldn't help but giggle and scramble to locate my camera...that so rocked my world...
Only in Mineral Point!!!!

Capturing the moment...I thought this was so awesome
I love this little town...

Having them pose one more time for me before I left the market this morning

Mike Larossa's (sp?)Woodburning Car

Yes, that's what I said...A car that operates on Smoke...

This town and it's people amaze me...

Thank you for making me feel so welcomed and for never ceasing to amaze me...

The Walker House is soon adding Pizza to our Take Away Menu...

Pics

At the market alot of people wondered what I have been up to and aside of working on the Walker House, I have been doing a lot of other fun stuff, so here are some pics of some of the things that I have been up to....

Jamming at the Old Royal Inn, Mineral Point

Thanking Buddha for getting rid of the snow

Did a Wild Game Dinner in Chicago with members of Chicago Police and Fire Departments
Pic of Me, my Sous Chef David and an old Marine Corps Buddy, SmaggieWas joking with Smaggie telling him this probably would be last time a couple Rebs surrounded a Yankee. Dave's From Texas and I am from Tennessee

Me pumping out a couple hundred Vension Pasties for the Dinner
The Wild Game Dinner was a blast, there were three of us that did most of the cooking to see the pics that I took throughout the week you can see them at http://picasaweb.google.com/chefmichaelhayes/ChicagoPics

My Kitchen Got Legal!!!

Chungachungabam!!!!!

Finished my first "Take Away" Menu-it has changed since, but most of the items are still the same, to get my most recent menu send me and email or leave a comment with an email address.

Spent the weekend at my first field burn...700 acres that needed to be burnt off...this was a definite cultural experience with my new found Mineral Point friends. We burned fields and I cooked a bunch of wild game...

I got a buddy, Beef Pickel and we had a blast cooking that weekend...pheasant, venison, pork, splitting wood, four wheeling and beer...
Oh, Shit....life is good!!!

A sign on the side of one of Tim's Cabin's that I thought was awesome...

Cheffy playing....Pheasant brined in salt, chipotles and roasted garlic, sprinkled with Cheffy Salt, wrapped in bacon and slow cooked on the grill...freaking awesome....

My buddy Beef holding out a Pheasant (one out of a few hundred) that were going to be let out the next day for a pheasant hunt out on Chief Chambers Club

My buddy Lance's dog, not biting the pheasant bacon....but spitting all over the chair...

The previous pics were taken on my buddy Tim Stracka's farm...700 plus acres of WonderLand...Trees, Lakes, Creeks, Animals, Moonlight and Beer...
Life is good...

Following are a couple pics of Tim's farm that I thought were cool...

You can see all of the pics of his farm and our weekend at http://picasaweb.google.com/chefmichaelhayes/TimStrackaSFarmPics

Even though I spelled his name wrong on the photo album...

Tree outside of Tim's Barn at Dusk the night before the burn

My buddy Beef asking "How do you want me to get this off of here Mikey?"

"Beef, just cut the sonuvabitch off the bone, grab one of my knives and cut the sonuvabitch!!!
Smoked Venison that we turned into BBQ

Splitting Wood, Loading up the Shed, Chewing Fat,Telling Lies, Eating Game and waiting for Beefy to hurt himself....

More Later...

Thanks for Logging In and witnessing my insanity...

Peace, Hugs and Cookies,

Chef

Walker's Back In Town-June 1, 2008

The Walker's Back In Town!!!

Yes, The Walker's Back...

Alot of people had asked me at the Market on Saturday when I was going to write in the blog again, I didn't realize how many people have actually been reading my stuff...Thanks that is pretty awesome...

So What Does the Walker Have Planned?

Currently the building is not open to the public, but in lieu of opening the doors I have incorporated an extensive catering service and developed a Take Away Delivery Service, if you have not recieved a copy of the menu or would like to be put on our newsletter mailing list shoot me an email at walkerhousechef@gmail.com

Aside of those two things we are focusing on perfecting our pizza dough recipe and expect to be doing pizzas by the middle of the month. Also starting on June 14th we will be a regular at the Farmer's Market, bringing our Miniature Pasties and whatever else strikes me as being fun to bring to the market.
